324,000 car seats recalled after kids put foam in their mouths, up their noses

The possibility that children might pick away at a car seat’s foam headrest, then put what they pick in their mouths or up their noses caused Evenflo to recall 324,997 Resolve360 Slim car seats.

“The headrest is accessible underneath the soft goods cover,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration safety recall notice reads. “The field experience demonstrates that the tape employed to protect against a child picking off pieces of foam does not extend sufficiently far to be fully effective.

“A child breaking off pieces of the phone headrest may ingest them, creating a choking hazard.”

Unlike most children’s clothing recalls for poorly secured buttons or most toy recalls with small parts, what the company and government agency are worried about happening has happened often.

Evenflo knows about 11 times children who got parts of the foam headrest “placed it in either their mouth or nose,” as well as another 12 reports of “accessing the foam (though not ingesting it).”

This covers Evenflo Resolve360 Slim and Evenflo Gold Resolve360 Slim, model Nos. 36812450AZ; 36812450POP; 36812501A; 36812470TGT; 36812470A; 36812469AZ; 36812468AZ; 36812467AZ; 36812451AZ 36812449AZ; 36812504; 36812451; 36812450; 36812449; 36812501; 36812471; 36812470; 36812469; 36812468; and 36812467.

Car seat owners who haven’t already registered their seat with Evenflo can do so via the company website. Evenflo will then send customers who have registered their seat or for whom they otherwise have contact information with a remedy kit that has another tape seal that’ll cover the whole foam area.
