This remote NC mountain treehouse is a favorite on Airbnb’s Instagram. Take a look
A treehouse nestled in the remote woods of Western North Carolina has become a favorite on Instagram.
The off-the-grid dwelling was the No. 2 most-liked home on the social media platform last year for Airbnb, the short-term rental company said in a Jan. 24 news release.
To come up with its findings, the company studied the volume of interactions on posts from the @Airbnb Instagram account in 2021. The posts featured “listings from images taken by users,” officials said.
Edging out the competition was Zion EcoCabin in Utah, which earned more than 61,000 likes to become the favorite Airbnb nationwide — and across the globe — on the company’s account. But with more than 39,000 likes as of Jan. 25, the North Carolina treehouse was still popular among Instagram users.
The one-bedroom listing, called Raven Rock Treehouse, is in the mountain town of Fletcher. Photos posted to social media in April show a staircase winding around a tree and leading to a wood-paneled bedroom.
“If you’ve ever wanted to curl up in front of a fire in the branches of a tree, or to be gently rocked to sleep as your house sways (just a little) in the wind, or to look down on a mountain sunrise, you’ve found your spot,” Airbnb wrote in its Instagram post. “While it’s tough to top the views from the deck of Superhosts Doug and Jen’s treehouse, there’s plenty of competition nearby, including Pisgah National Forest.”
On Airbnb, the place earned an average of 4.98 stars out of 5, with some guests saying they were fans of the treehouse’s peaceful location and scenic views of nature.
The location also comes with more reminders you’re in the middle of the woods, including furry visitors, the outdoor port-a-potty and gravel road access.
“If you are an early riser and quiet,” the listing said, “you may see bobcat, fox, deer, turkey, hawks, falcons, grouse, owls and of course ravens.”
Guests also have no electricity, though the Airbnb listing said it has a solar generator for charging phones and wood for heating a stove.
“In spite of our remote setting everything is close by,” the listing said. “Hiking, artisan shops, wineries, and unique dining abound. From complete seclusion you are just 10 miles from the Asheville airport and 5 miles away from the quaint town of Hendersonville.”
It’s not the first time a Western North Carolina treehouse has earned recognition.
In November, a treetop retreat in Hendersonville was the top-ranking new Airbnb listing in the state.
This time around, the listings rounding out the top five were in California, Vermont and Oregon.
