A family had to be rescued from their home in the middle of the night after a car crashed through the front window, sailed across the living room, and landed on its side at the bottom of the staircase, photos show.

It happened around 3:40 a.m. Sunday at a home in the Crouse area of Lincoln County, and the driver was hospitalized, according to the Crouse Volunteer Fire Department.

“Upon arrival, Crouse command found a 4-door car roughly 30 ft in the home. (The) driver had got herself out of the vehicle on her own power as homeowners were calling 911,” the fire department wrote in a May 3 Facebook post.

“Homeowners were trapped upstairs until firefighters and deputies assisted them from the stairwell by ladder. Nobody living at the home was injured, just really shook up.”

The identity of the driver and details of her injuries were not released.

Photos indicate the vehicle was three to four feet off the ground when it entered the front window, and it took out at least two interior walls before coming to a stop.

Maps show the brick home is northeast of Crouse, and faces the three-way intersection of N.C. 150 and West Highway 150.

The vehicle was pulled back out of the home with the help of a wrecker.

Crouse is about a 35-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
