Judges emotional after SC singer eliminated on ‘The Voice,’ touching video shows
A South Carolina singer was eliminated from “The Voice” — leaving several judges emotional, news outlets reported.
Dylan Carter took to the stage to battle fellow contestant Tom Nitti in an episode that aired Tuesday, Oct. 31. But after Carter wasn’t chosen to continue in the competition, celebrity judge Niall Horan started to get tearful, according to Yahoo Music, USA Today and a video clip posted on YouTube.
Carter is a 21-year-old singer from St. George, roughly 50 miles northwest of the tourist hot spot of Charleston. He has loved music since he was young but started pursuing his passion after his mom died last year.
“Since her passing, Dylan has struggled to carry on, but with the support of his amazing family he’s ready to turn her dream into a reality and chase a career in music,” the show wrote on its website.
Carter’s run on the show ended weeks after his blind audition made all four of the show’s judges turn their chairs around to show support. At the time, he was praised for his ability to deliver a touching performance that left the judges emotional.
“When y’all four turned around for me, I gained so much confidence that I needed, and I felt my mom for the first time in a long time,” Carter said after his elimination. “I’m gonna keep chasing my dreams, keep chasing her dreams.”
Video from that part of the episode showed Horan wiping his eye as Gwen Stefani put her palm to her chest.
Carter left the show after he and Nitti sang “Til You Can’t” by country star Cody Johnson. After the audition, judge Reba McEntire raved about both singers but chose Nitti to advance to the next round.
