South Carolina man killed in crash where pickup truck flips over, officials say

A South Carolina man was killed over the weekend when the pickup truck he was driving crashed, officials said.

Wade Wyndham Jr., a 25-year-old Moncks Corner resident, died Saturday in what Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell called an accident.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 1:25 a.m. on U.S. 52 in the Moncks Corner area, according to Lance Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Wyndham was driving a 2018 Toyota pickup west on U.S. 52, and near the intersection with U.S. 17 Alternate the truck ran off the right side of the road, Pye said. The pickup hit a curve and flipped over, and Wyndham died, according to Pye.

Pye said Wyndham was the only person in the pickup, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Wyndham was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the pickup to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through June 23, at least 447 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 15 people have died in Berkeley County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data.
