Beach hazards statement in place for Myrtle Beach area and Coastal Georgetown for Monday

On Sunday at 7:15 p.m. a beach hazards statement was released by the NWS Wilmington NC valid for Monday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Myrtle Beach area and Coastal Georgetown.

The NWS informs, "Strong north to south longshore current."

"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," explains the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."

This statement is in effect until Monday at 8 p.m.
