Deebo Samuel’s return to South Carolina’s football team is not going unnoticed.

The senior wide receiver was the only Gamecocks selected to Athlon Sports preseason All-SEC first team, a list the magazine released this week. Offensive lineman Zack Bailey, linebacker T.J. Brunson and punter Joseph Charlton were named to the second team. The third team included Gamecocks defensive linemen Javon Kinlaw and D.J. Wonnum. Cornerback Rashad Fenton was named to the fourth team.

Samuel scored six touchdowns in 11 quarters of football in 2017 before his season was ended by a broken leg. He caught 15 passes for 250 yards and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Bailey played tackle last season but will return to his more familiar position of guard in 2018. Brunson was the team’s second-leading tackler in 2017 with 88 stops. Charlton averaged 43.5 yards per kick.
