South Carolina adding productive transfer linebacker from FCS school
South Carolina football added another player from the transfer portal on Wednesday night.
Grambling State linebacker Andrew Jones committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. He was the third transfer to commit to USC on Wednesday, joining Kentucky’s Jordan Dingle and Texas A&M’s Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy.
Jones has one year of eligibility left.
Jones had a big junior season for Grambling State with 122 tackles (20.5 for loss) and three sacks. He was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the top player at the Football Championship Subdivision level.
The Gamecocks will be Jones’ third college. The former four-star prospect signed with Memphis out of high school in 2021 and played two seasons there before enrolling at Grambling State.
Jones entered the transfer portal earlier this month and visited South Carolina and Oklahoma State, according to The BigSpur.
The Gamecocks are losing two starters at linebacker in Debo Williams and Demetrius Knight, both former transfers and Bam Martin-Scott.
South Carolina has added five total players from the transfer portal this cycle.
