Blythewood’s Jordyn Adams gets football, baseball offers from USC
Jordyn Adams already has an offer to play baseball at South Carolina.
Now, the Blythewood sophomore has an offer to play football for the Gamecocks. USC coach Will Muschamp extended the offer to Adams on Wednesday.
“I was really just excited,” Adams said before Blythewood’s baseball game against Lexington. “Coach Muschamp thinks I have a bright future and can be a big contributor to the program.”
Adams, who received his USC baseball offer in October, is no stranger to the Gamecocks’ program. His father Deke was an assistant at USC for three years but wasn’t retained when Muschamp took over. Deke is now the defensive line coach at East Carolina.
Despite his father’s new job, Jordyn will remain at Blythewood to finish his high school career. He is a Class of 2018 prospect.
“We talked about things with his mom and this is the best option with everything that is going on in,” Deke said. “He has two good coaches in (Dan) Morgan (football) and (Barry) Mizzell (baseball), so we want him to stay here. We are going to make it work and see how it goes.”
Jordyn doesn’t think being away from his father will be a problem.
“He gets home quite a bit and is only a phone call away,” Jordyn said.
Deke Adams’ recruiting area is in South Carolina, so he will be able to see his son and also they will see each other during the other’s bye weeks. Deke said he will do his best to try and recruit his son to come to ECU.
“I have to recruit mama more than him,” Deke joked. “It is a different situation. We are excited for him and look forward to watching him play.”
Jordyn already has an offer to play baseball for the Pirates. A football offer from ECU could be coming soon.
As a sophomore, Adams played receiver and saw time on kickoff and punt returns. He was second on the team with 18 catches for 280 yards and three touchdowns.
Adams, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, averaged 23 yards per kickoff return and 13 yards per punt return.
Morgan said Adams could play quarterback this season as the team tries to replace David Israel.
On the baseball diamond, Adams is hitting .403 with two homers and 16 RBI at shortstop for the Bengals. He plans on playing for the Diamond Devils in travel baseball and expects to have a busy summer with tournaments while trying to participate in some football camps.
