Decision time is drawing near for those football prospects wishing to get it over with.
The early signing period runs December 20-22 so for those planning to sign then, the next few days will be crucial in the recruiting process. Friday several coaches of key South Carolina targets gave status updates.
▪ Defensive end Jarrett Jackson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is down to the Gamecocks and Louisville. He has been a Cardinal commitment but took an official visit to USC in early November and the Gamecocks have been a factor ever since.
Jackson will sign Wednesday at a school ceremony around Noon. USC coaches Travaris Robinson and Lance Thompson visited Jackson this week. Louisville coaches also were.
“He and his family are keeping it very close to the vest,” Palm Beach Gardens High School coach William Clark said. “No indicators towards me yet. He’s obviously been committed for a very long time but he’s also taken some visits and gone to see some places, too. He’s not a nervous wreck. He’s not a kid that’s shown me that he’s stressing. He may have made a decision in his mind but he has not confirmed that this is where he’s going to be.”
▪ Tucker Ga., offensive lineman Dylan Wonnum will not sign next week and has done very little with his recruiting outside of some unofficial visits to USC and Auburn during the season and some visits from recruiters the past two weeks.
USC, Tennessee and LSU were three in to check on him. Will Muschamp and Bryan McClendon were in this week and took in his basketball game. Auburn also is in the mix with the other tree. He has not scheduled any official visits.
“I don’t think he wants to tackle the tough situation,” Tucker coach Bryan Lamar said. “He’s got to make a decision, so I think he kind of bounces around having to make that tough decision. He’s a guy who should be signing on Dec. 20.”
Lamar said he wouldn’t be shocked up Wonnum up and decided to sign on the Wednesday but he’s not expecting it. USC wide receiver commitment Josh Vann will sign Wednesday but is not an early enrollee.
