Fairfield Central freshman voted Midlands high school football Player of Week

The fourth week of the high school football regular season is in the books.

The votes are in, and Fairifield Central’s Kaylin Culp won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School Football Player of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll on Monday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Player of the Week Nominees

Ben Lippen running backs: The trio of Zion Gaddist, Michael Traynum and Johnathan Eckert each rushed for more than 100 yards and combined for 360 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Cardinal Newman.

Deandre Caldwell, RB/S, Swansea: Sophomore carried it 14 times for 97 yards, two touchdowns and had nine tackles in a win over Pelion.

Darius Carter, WR, River Bluff: Junior caught five passes for 137 yards and also intercepted a pass in the win over Gilbert.

Jamere Crooks, WR/DB, Newberry: Senior had nine catches for 195 yards, three touchdowns and also picked off a pass in a win over Chapin.

Kaylin Culp, DB, Fairfield Central: Freshman had 15 tackles (7 solo) in the win over Lewisville.

Drevon Dopson, QB, Irmo: Senior was 11-of-13 passing for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Carolina Forest.

Andrew Frick, QB, Brookland-Cayce: Sophomore was 15-of-22 passing for 327 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-29 loss to May River.

Marlon Glover, DB, Blythewood: Senior had two tackles (1 for loss), two pass break-ups, two interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown in the win over Keenan.

Solomon Kelson, RB, Lower Richland: Senior carried it 18 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns in win over Batesburg-Leesville.

Andrew Madison, DL, Ridge View: Senior had five tackles, two sacks and returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown in a win over Camden.

Preston Rhodes, LB, Lugoff-Elgin: Senior had 13 tackles (7 solo), a tackle for loss, a sack and two pass break-ups in win over Aiken.

Jackson Ross, LB/K, Hammond: Junior had 11 tackles (1 for loss), three sacks, three quarterback pressures and hit a 36-yard game-winning field goal in a win over Heathwood Hall.

Sheldon Shine, RB/DB, Dutch Fork: Senior had 100 all-purpose yards, including returning a punt for 62 yards, in a win over Gray Collegiate.

BJ Suits, QB, Northside Christian: Junior was 3-of-4 passing for 57 yards and carried the ball 21 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Andrew Jackson Academy.

Jahcory Sumpter, ATH, Eau Claire: The senior rushed for 185 yards, three touchdowns and had two tackles in a win over Williston-Elko.

Brayden Williams, QB, Saluda: Senior was 8-of-10 passing for 173 yards, three touchdowns and also carried it seven times for 78 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Chester.
