Arrest made in fatal Richland County shooting over pool game
A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting following an argument over a game of pool.
Paul Watkins, 24, has been charged with unlawful carry of a weapon, according to Sheriff Leon Lott.
Watkins and Willie Manning Jr., 49, were playing pool at Top Notch Barber at 1730 Broad River Road around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning when they two got into a verbal altercation, Lott said. The altercation turned physical, and Manning assaulted Watkins with a pool cue.
While being assaulted, Watkins pulled out a gun and shot Manning in the upper body, Lott said.
Manning died as a result of a gunshot wound received during that incident, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
Watkins is cooperating with the investigation, and deputies continue to question witnesses, Sheriff Lott said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
