The ESPYs -- sports version of the “Oscars" -- will be presented Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m. on ABC and will feature several South Carolina athletes and teams. Peyton Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champ who was given the ESPY Icon Award in 2016, is the master of ceremonies. Five S.C. connections to watch:

1. Team of the year

Clemson’s national championship football team and the South Carolina women’s basketball national championship team are among the seven nominees.

2. What an upset

Clemson football also was nominated in the “Best Upset” category. The Tigers defeated defending champion Alabama for the title with a 35-31 win January 9 at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.

3. Two nominations for Watson

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has been nominated for two individual 2017 ESPY Awards, including “Best Championship Performance,” which included the game-winning touchdown pass with one second remaining, and he was nominated as “Best Male College Athlete.”

4. Will Johnson win?

Irmo’s Dustin Johnson, who won the 2016 U.S. Open, is among five golfers nominated for “Best Male Golfer.” The others are: Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson.

5. What a catch

Former South Carolina tight end Jared Cook, now a tight end with the Green Bay Packers, was nominated for his catch from Aaron Rodgers in the NFL playoffs.
