USC’s Curtis Frye will coach USA men’s sprinters and hurdlers in Olympics
South Carolina track and field coach Curtis Frye will be working with Team USA at the Olympics this summer.
“It’s thrilling,” Frye said of his second stint in Olympic coaching. “I feel like it’s a redemption – I feel this is the year when the USA regains its total dominance. It’s a great year for track and field and we’re getting back into elite status.”
Frye won’t be taking a vacation for quite a while.
“July 15 is when we actually pack and head to Prairie View, which is our camp,” Frye said. “From that time, it’s all the way to the end of August.”
Frye is coaching the men’s sprinters and hurdlers in Rio de Janeiro, 12 years after he helped coach the USA women in Athens. Frye has coached 25 Olympians who have gone on to win 13 medals during his time at USC.
As the men’s sprints and hurdles coach at the 2013 World Championships, Frye’s group medaled in every event with three golds.
“It’s always a blessing to be asked to represent the USA,” Frye said. “We’re the greatest country in the world.”
