Former South Carolina offensive lineman Kyle Nunn has been invited to try out with the Carolina Panthers during this weekend’s mini-camp.

Nunn, a 6-7, 302-pounder from Sumter, has played Arena League football the past two seasons.

“He ran a 4.7 40 in the Canadian Football League tryouts recently and for a guy that big, that is backfield speed,” said his manager Humpy Wheeler, a former Gamecock player and NASCAR promoter.

“As athletic and fit as he is he could play tight end, special teams, long snapper. If I were Coach (Ron) Rivera I would think about putting him in the backfield when they got into the red zone. He could out refrigerate William Perry,” Wheeler said.

Nunn has been concentrating on boxing to improve his speed and foot movement, Wheeler said.

“I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity,” Nunn said. “The NFL is the hardest sport in the world to break into so this at least is the first step.”
