When South Carolina’s football team added Jeff Dillman as director of strength and conditioning, they picked up one of the more well-respected coaches nationally for the role.

Now he’s reportedly hired a respected assistant with experience running the show.

David Feeley, who ran Ball State’s strength program for the past five years, told the Fort Wayne News Sentinel he’s taking an assistant strength coach role with the Gamecocks.

“It was a shock,” Feeley told the newspaper. “Luckily, I was able to land on my feet.”

Feeley and Dillman have known each other as far back as Feeley’s time as a graduate assistant at UNLV and Dillman’s time at Appalachian State. Feeley worked at Florida International from 2008-10 and was part of a Ball State staff that went 30-28 with nine- and 10-win seasons.

Feeley’s situation had been uncertain after Cardinals coach Pete Lembo took a job as an assistant with Maryland days before Christmas.

The Gamecocks had also already added former lineman Cedric Williams as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
