Jake Bentley decision: Local, national reaction
South Carolina quarterback commitment Jake Bentley announced Wednesday that he will reclassify as a 2016 prospect and enroll at South Carolina this summer.
Bentley, a junior in high school, has completed the required class work and received approval to begin playing for the Gamecocks this season.
A roundup of the local and national reaction to the decision:
@JakeBentley19 we are going to be teammates after all! Welcome to the family big guy! #GoCocks

@JakeBentley19 congratulations on your decision of graduating early.

To the best of my knowledge, future S. Carolina QB Jake Bentley is the first HS QB to skip his senior year since John David Booty in 2003.

Jake Bentley has to finish up 1 class this year to graduate. He will not need summer school & could enroll as early as Summer A @ S.Carolina

This is a very interesting early development in the Will Muschamp era https://t.co/CdFzjGXSAQ

It will be interesting to see what staff has to say about competition and what role Bentley has in it in fall https://t.co/Dn98GL2ylk

My opinion it's telling #SouthCarolina hates its QB depth with Jake Bentley foregoing his senior season of HS: https://t.co/KloG8BFlVg

Well that's a seismic change to South Carolina's QB battle. https://t.co/rp6QJrUsNQ

My guess is Bentley redshirts. However, spending year developing in college S&C program + learning offense will help more than HS Ball IMO

One thing that adding Bentley now does is open door for 2017 Jelani Woods & create more separation for 2018 Fort D. QB Keron Joyner

Wrote for @gridironnow about what Jake Bentley enrolling early tells us Will Muschamp has learned... https://t.co/XClqEBPFRQ

I know great athletes aren't supposed to be afraid of competition, but how would you feel about this if you were McIlwain?
— Kevin McCrarey (@KMacMustDie) April 6, 2016
Somehow, getting the school's best QB commit ever to enroll a whole year early has fractured the psyche of the South Carolina fan base.
