Offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn of Charlotte plans to be at the South Carolina-N.C. State game Saturday in Charlotte.

Those two, along with Duke, make up his final three. Gwyn wants to see the teams perform in person before finalizing a decision.

“I want to see how the offensive line (for each team) plays and how they play as a team,” Gwyn said. “My parents want me to take official visits, but it depends on how I feel after these games. I’m really waiting to see how they play. With these games, I’m going to see if I feel comfortable enough to make my decision without taking official visits.”

Gwyn said the three finalists are bunched tightly.

“They are all great schools, all have great coaches, and when I took visits there, I connected with the players,” he said. “I want to study business or engineers. If it’s engineering, then it’s Duke or N.C. State, and if it’s business, it’s USC and Duke.”

Gwyn does not yet have a target date for his decision.

Notes

▪  DE Trajan Jeffcoat of Irmo will take an official visit to Missouri Sept. 23 and he also plans to take officials to Colorado State and Indiana. Jeffcoat, who camped at USC this summer, said he’s not hearing anything from the Gamecocks at this point. Missouri is his current favorite.

▪  QB Kevaris Thomas of Lakeland, Fla., camped at USC in June hoping for an offer from the Gamecocks but that hasn’t happened yet. “They’ve told me they are going to hold off on offering me because they need more defensive players. They said I’m still at the top of the QB list.” Thomas said he’s not heard from USC since late July. FIU is the primary school he is hearing from that has offered.

▪  DB Jermaine McMillian of Miami camped at USC this summer and said he’s not heard much from the Gamecocks since pre-season camp started. He has heard from South Florida, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. He plans to visit USC, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Florida for his official visits.
