Alex Cooper Addresses Rumors of 'Marital Issues' With Husband Matt Kaplan

Alex Cooper was worried her pregnancy would get revealed during a recent New York City red carpet appearance - but all anyone could talk about was her relationship with husband Matt Kaplan.

"The only rumors that actually came from the carpet were just how miserable my husband and I looked," Cooper, 31, said during the Wednesday, June 10, episode of her "Call Her Daddy" podcast. "To see people overanalyzing Matt and me as we were earnestly trying to hide this pregnancy, I was so relieved that they were talking about our dynamic, our supposed marital issues, and no one was talking about a potential bump. It was a win for the Cooper-Kaplans that day."

All jokes aside, Cooper said it was "sad" to see people discussing her relationship that way.

"You read those things, and Matt and I are like, no one in our life, our closest friends, our family, is wondering those things," she said. "It is crazy to see the internet be like, ‘Oh my God, they're on the rocks.' And we're like, "Wait, wait. We are? What's happening?' I think that is an odd part of the job that I don't enjoy."

Cooper and Kaplan tied the knot in April 2024. She assured fans that they are "good" and have no issues between them.

"No one needs to worry," Cooper added. "Matt and I are great."

Cooper stepped out with Kaplan, 42, at the YouTube Brandcast event on May 13. She was dressed to hide her baby bump - but the outfit was too small. The podcast host was having "a mental breakdown" while taking photos, worried that her pregnancy would be revealed.

"I'm so emotional. I'm so hormonal, and I was not prepared for the energy of a red carpet," she recalled. "The last thing that I wanted was for me to get on this carpet and for those buttons that couldn't stay secure for the life of them to just boom - hit them with the belly."

Cooper announced her pregnancy via Instagram on May 17, days after the red carpet moment.

"Daddy Gang, there is something I've been waiting to share with you," she shared that day, showing off photos of her growing baby bump. "Honestly happy I can finally stop trying to hide the bump lol."

She said during Wednesday's podcast episode that her goal was to hide the baby bump until at least August or September of this year.

"I really just wanted to stay in this bubble and not, I don't know, not open it up for public commentary for honestly as long as I could," Cooper explained on Wednesday. "Obviously, that plan didn't work as expected."

Cooper made the decision to go public with her pregnancy news because the bump was "becoming too hard to hide" under her clothes.

"Plain and simple," she added. "The process of trying to hide it was literally causing me more anxiety than just putting it out there and being honest with the world."
