Local young actor appearing in ‘Camelot’
You might recognize one of the cast members of the Broadway in Columbia production of “Camelot,” opening Tuesday for a two-night run at the Koger Center.
A Lexington fifth-grader, Nico Cruea, is playing young Tom of Warwick in the musical production of the Lerner & Loewe classic about the Knights of the Round Table.
Cruea, talking in between classes at Pleasant Hill Middle School, describes the character as a “good archer” who grew up in a small village. Tom longs to be a knight and meets the medieval warriors in person.
Tom of Warwick, says Nico of Lexington, doesn’t have to demonstrate archery skills on stage. “He’s just holding it.”
Cruea is no stranger to acting. He’s been in independent films, played a part in the Lifetime movie, “The Anna Nicole Smith Story” and had a part in NBC’s “Revolution,” which filmed near Atlanta.
Asked to ponder the strength of medieval knights versus, say, knights of the Jedi kind, Cruea thought the Sir Lancelots could hold an advantage in battle strategy, “but both are good at fighting.”
“It kind of messes with your mind,” he added.
“Camelot” tells the tale of Lancelot, King Arthur and his wife, Guenevere, and the love triangle created as the kingdom is threatened with destruction. The original 1960 production ran on Broadway for 873 performances and spawned several revivals.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, at the Koger Center. Get tickets at www.kogercenterforthearts.com
