One Day a Week: Keep the Independence Day celebrations going
Independence Day — also known as the Fourth of July — has been a federal holiday since 1941. Keep the tradition of Independence Day celebrations going with backyard fireworks, local catering and homemade desserts.
Food
This Fourth of July, let someone else take care of the cooking. Order Italian cold cuts, sandwiches and desserts for the entire family from Enzos Delicatessen. Start off the backyard barbecue with a sampler of hot dry sausage, capocollo, soppressata, and Genoa salami paired with Italian cheeses. Throughout the day add a platter of subs to the feast, including turkey pesto, turkey breast with fresh mozzarella, and the piper—Italian cold cuts, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers with lettuce and onions. All orders made before 4 p.m. will be delivered same day, any orders made after 4 p.m. will be dropped off next day. Free delivery with $25 minimum. Purchase by email or online.

Fun
Cool down and shake things up all at the same time with homemade ice cream in a bag. Rather than standing in line at a custard stand, make your own sweet treat with half and half, sugar, vanilla extract, crushed ice, rock salt, and two resealable bags. Combine ½ cup of half and half, one tablespoon sugar, and one teaspoon vanilla in a sandwich bag. Place ice and rock salt in a gallon bag. Seal both bags securely, placing the smaller one inside the larger one. Squeeze and shake the bags for 10-15 minutes, or until the ice cream starts to thicken. Remove small bag and enjoy; top with any remaining Sallie simple syrup to make a sundae.
Leisure
End your Independence Day with a bang by building your own fireworks show in your backyard with products from Fireworks Supermarket. Choose from a selection of pre-packaged themes, like “Colors of America,” or design your own aerial display with sparkles and roman candles. It’s the best and brightest way to keeping your social distancing without losing the holiday spirit.
Where to find it: 270 Jamill Road. www.fireworkssupermarket.com. 803-772-2820. Open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
