Q. For the people that don’t know you tell us about yourself.
A. I’ve been in the media profession and have more than 30 years of experience in broadcasting. I’ve worked as a journalist on the radio, TV and in print throughout the Carolinas including in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greenville, Asheville, and I’ve been been in Columbia for more than 15 years.
Q. Tell us about your current show and how the coronavirus has impacted your work.
A. In March 2019 I was budget cut from my job at a local radio station; I was actually trying to figure out how I was going to mange working there while caring for a family member recently diagnosed with cancer. Being released from the station wasn’t the answer I imagined, but it was the right one.
I launched “Coping with COVID,” an hour-long show broadcast on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube at 2 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The show’s tagline is: “Updates on the pandemic and info to help you thrive and survive COVID-19.“Coping with COVID” not only provides the information people need in long form, it affords listeners the opportunity to ask questions and get answers from people they would not normally have access to, including Mayor Steve Benjamin, State epidemiologist Linda Bell, gospel singer Travis Green, writer/speaker Marianne Williamson, state representatives Gilda Cobb Hunter and Terry Alexander, Benedict College president Roslyn Artis and others have been featured on the show.
Q. What’s next for you?
A. DHEC has signed on as a multi-year sponsor of the show, so the show will definitely continue to cover health concerns and disparities. We are working on features including “COVID Heroes,” “Faith Fridays,” live correspondents (the show went live with Roshanda Pratt at the Juneteenth Festival), and South Carolina native and national comedian J Anthony Brown just agreed to do a weekly feature on the show. Masks are being created for an on-air giveaway and we are perusing additional partnerships so the show can grow and provide opportunities for more people to hone their skills and showcase their talents.
Q. How can people tune in?
A. “Coping with COVID” airs live at 2 p.m. Monday-Saturday on the Tailor Made Productions page on Facebook, on the Tre’ Tailor YouTube channel, and on Instagram @Tre’ Tailor
