Parrotheads rejoice! Jimmy Buffett announces concert in Columbia
Margaritaville is coming to Columbia, but for just one night only.
Jimmy Buffett is bringing his “Slack Tide Tour 2020” to Colonial Life Arena, officials said Thursday.
The musical icon is expected to thrill his legion of devoted fans, better known as Parrotheads, on April 23, according to a news release.
Tickets will go on sale Jan. 10 at 10 a.m., and there is a limit of eight per customer. Information on ticket prices was not available.
“We are honored to welcome Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band back to Columbia this spring,” Colonial Life Arena general manager Sid Kenyon said in a news release. “Jimmy Buffett concerts are always the ultimate must-see concert of the year. This is one not to miss!”
Buffett has adopted a drunken-sailor persona, and is known for songs “Margaritaville,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Come Monday,” “Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw?” “Pencil Thin Mustache,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” among other hits.
Buffett is no stranger to the Carolinas and will perform three concerts in South and North Carolina as part of the upcoming tour. In addition to the Columbia stop, Buffett is scheduled to perform in North Charleston on April 16, and Charlotte on April 25, according to Ticketmaster.
A musical of Buffett’s life and music is on a nationwide tour and will also hit the Carolinas.
“Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville” will stop in Durham, North Carolina for five shows, May 1-3, according to Ticketmaster.
“This talented cast has been hand-selected to share and celebrate the story, music and lifestyle of this show on its first national tour,” Buffett said in the release. “I am thrilled that this group of performers will transform theaters into Margaritaville each evening. Margaritaville started out as an idea, but now you can actually spend an evening there, and get your mind on island time.”
He previously played Colonial Life Arena in 2010, and the song “Surfing in a Hurricane” was on the set list.
He lived out that tune. Buffett was spotted surfing in Folly Beach, on the South Carolina coast, as Hurricane Florence approached in 2018.
“I ain’t afraid of dying. I got no need to explain. I feel like going surfing in a hurricane,” Buffett said on Instagram.
