Controversial country music superstar Morgan Wallen coming to Columbia for concert

Morgan Wallen, one of the most controversial but popular country music stars, will perform in Columbia on his upcoming tour.

On Feb. 24, 2022, Wallen will play a concert at Colonial Life Arena as a part of his upcoming “Dangerous” tour.

Tickets for the show, which will also include performances by Hardy and Larry Fleet, are set to go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Ticket prices for the Columbia show were not available, but will start at $136 for a March 3 stop on the tour in Biloxi, according to the Sun Herald.

Tickets will only be available online at Ticketmaster on the first day they go on sale. Any remaining tickets will be available at Colonial Life Arena’s box office beginning the following day.

In addition to the performance in Columbia, Wallen will also bring his tour to Savannah (Feb. 25), Greenville (Feb. 26), Charlotte (June 2), and Raleigh (June 3) among other stops.

“Sand in My Boots,” “7 Summers,” “More Than My Hometown,” and “Wasted on You” are among some of Wallen’s biggest hits, after he got his breakthrough appearing on NBC’s “The Voice.”

But more than any song, Wallen might be best known for causing a stir in 2020 when a video surfaced of him using a racial slur. He apologized after he was suspended from his record label and pulled from many radio stations.

The controversy did not stop Wallen from topping the charts. His songs have been streamed more than 7.5 billion times, and his “Dangerous: The Double Album” was the most popular album in the U.S. in 2021, according to Billboard. The music industry news outlet said “Dangerous” is:

The first album with 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since 2016 (Drake’s “Views”)

The first album to spend its first 10 weeks at No. 1 since 1987 (Whitney Houston’s “Whitney”)

One of just four country albums to spend at least 10 weeks at No. 1 since 1956

Called “the most wanted man in country” by The New Yorker, the Tennessee native has stacked up the accolades, winning 2020’s CMA New Artist of the Year and iHeartRadio’s Best New Country Artist awards.
