Rock legends coming to Columbia for concert

Classic rock legends the Eagles are coming to Columbia for a concert, promoters said Thursday.

Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band will bring their “Hotel California 2023 Tour” to Colonial Life Arena on March 30.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Jan. 13 at 10 a.m., but a presale will begin a day earlier at ticketmaster.com. Any tickets that are still available after Jan. 13 can be purchased the next business day online or at the Colonial Life Arena box office.

Information on ticket prices was not available.

During the concert, the Eagles will play their iconic album “Hotel California” from beginning to end, as well as a set list of their other greatest hits following an intermission, promoters said.

The group’s current lineup expected to perform in Columbia includes Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill, in addition to accompanying orchestra and choir for the “Hotel California” portion of the show.

“Hotel California” is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times platinum by the RIAA, according to promoters. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two Grammy Awards for the songs “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.”

Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour in 2019, promoters said.

The concert in Columbia is the only tour stop scheduled for South Carolina. The Eagles are slated to perform in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 4.

No special guests or opening acts are scheduled to perform before the Eagles take the stage.

The band’s “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977” is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times platinum, promoters said.

The group was the best-selling American band of the 1970s, and the Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six No. 1 albums and topped the singles charts five times, according to promoters. They’ve won six Grammy Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016, promoters said.
