R&B music legend coming to Columbia for concert
R&B music legend Gladys Knight is coming to Columbia for a concert, promoters said Monday.
Knight, called “The Empress of Soul,” will bring her tour to the Township Auditorium on Feb. 23, 2024. This is currently Knight’s only scheduled tour stop in South Carolina.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, but multiple presale events will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com.
Ticket prices range from $49 to $129, according to the venue’s website.
A seven-time Grammy Award winner, Knight might be best known for her work as the lead singer of the group Gladys Knight and the Pips. Knight and the rest of the group were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and are known for hits “If I Were Your Woman,” “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “Every Beat of My Heart” among other songs.
She also has had a successful career as a solo artist and has been honored for her work in R&B as well as gospel music, and Rolling Stone magazine included Knight on its list of the greatest singers of all time.
