Justin Timberlake’s scheduled concert in Columbia has been canceled

Pop music superstar Justin Timberlake was scheduled to come to Columbia for a concert, but that event has been canceled.

Timberlake was slated to bring his “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour,” for a stop at Colonial Life Arena on June 8, venue officials said in an April 22 news release.

“Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event,” said a message on Ticketmaster’s website page, where tickets for the Columbia tour stop had previously been sold.

As of Thursday, all information about the performance had been removed from the Colonial Life Arena website and the venue’s social media pages.

Information about why the concert was canceled was not available, and there was no word about who made the call to pull the plug on the previously announced Columbia performance.

Messages left with Colonial Life Arena officials weren’t immediately answered.

Original plans

The Columbia show was a late addition to the previously planned tour, promoters said in April. This was going to be Timberlake’s only scheduled tour stop in South Carolina. He still has shows planned for North Carolina — Raleigh on June 12 and Charlotte on Nov. 14 — as well as two performances in Atlanta on June 10 and Nov. 16, according to justintimberlake.com.

Tickets for the Columbia concert went on sale to the public April 26 and were available online at ticketmaster.com, following various presale events.

Ticket prices, before extra fees were added, ranged from a low of about $100 and went up.

Anyone who bought tickets through Ticketmaster will get a refund, according to the broker.

“You don’t need to do a thing. We’ll issue a refund to the original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer. It should appear on your account within 14-21 days,” Ticketmaster said. “Please Note: If the tickets were transferred to you, the refund will go to the fan who originally purchased the tickets from Ticketmaster.”

About Timberlake

In addition to his success as a solo artist, Timberlake is also well known as a member of *NSYNC, an actor and all-around entertainer, promoters said.

Timberlake has sold more than 54 million albums and 63 million singles, and a further 70 million records as a lead vocalist of the boy band *NSYNC, according to the April release.

He has won 10 Grammy Awards across the pop, dance and R&B genres, in addition to the four Emmy Awards he’s won for his memorable stints on “Saturday Night Live.”

On the big screen, he’s lent his voice to the popular animated franchise “TROLLS.” His hit record “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from “TROLLS” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Other songs Timberlake is known for from his solo career include “Sexy Back,” “Cry Me A River,” “Rock Your Body,” “My Love,” and “Mirrors” among other hits.
