Lattimore will take official visit to USC

Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore was named the winner of the Mr. Football Award for South Carolina Friday night in Myrtle Beach.

USC head coach Steve Spurrier, who has been actively recruiting Lattimore, was in attendance at Myrtle Beach High School for the announcement.

Spurrier has also gotten good news from Lattimore, who has decided to take an official visit to USC.

Lattimore said Friday night he will make his official visit with the Gamecocks the weekend after he plays in the U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio.

Lattimore had not planned to take an official visit to USC because he's been there many times unofficially. But after cutting North Carolina from his list last week, that opened up a spot for a visit to USC. He will visit Oregon Jan. 22 and Georgia on Jan. 29.

Lattimore has visited Penn State and Auburn. No head coaches have been in yet, and he's expecting them in January. Lattimore said Spurrier likely will be the first head coach to visit.

He said there is no favorite and no order to his final five at this point. Lattimore plans to announce at his church the day before signing day.
