Instant Racing wagering up 14.5 percent in February

Instant Racing, the electronic form of gambling based on previously run horse races, continues to grow. In February, more than $12.5 million was bet at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, a 14.5 percent increase over wagering in January.

Most of the money is returned to bettors in the form of winnings, but more than $1.06 million was split between the track and the state. For February, Kentucky Downs kept $875,305, while the state got $188,119, including almost $44,000 in taxes for the general fund.

Since September, more than $52.7 million has been wagered.

A second facility is expected to open at Ellis Park in Henderson next month.
