Orangeburg-Wilkinson Principal dies
Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Principal David L. Norman has died, according to a release from the school district.
Norman, 50, began his service with the district in 1987, which included six years as the assistant principal from 2005-2011, according to the release. Normal also served three years as principal of Blackville-Hilda Middle/High School prior to becoming principal at Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
Norman was a graduate of South Carolina State University and recieved an M. Ed. degree in secondary education from the University of South Carolina. He was also a member of the South Carolina Education Association, the National Education Association and the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators.
Norman was inducted into the South Carolina State University Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2010, according to the release.
“Mr. Norman will be remembered for his passionate commitment to advancing the achievements of his school, his students and his community. Mr. Norman was married to Debra Watson Norman and was the father of one daughter, Taylor Simone Norman,” the release said.
