SC’s bromancing Scott, Gowdy to publish joint memoir
South Carolina’s bromancing Republicans — U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-Charleston, and U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-Spartanburg — have signed a deal to publish a joint memoir next year.
“Indivisible: Overcoming Our Differences, One Friendship at a Time” is scheduled for release April 3, 2018, Tyndale House Publishers said Tuesday.
In addition, “The Indivisible Challenge: A Six-Week Guide to True Reconciliation — One Friendship at a Time,” a small-group guide on bridging racial, ethnic and other divides in a community, will release at the same time.
Terms of the two-book deal with Tyndale’s Tyndale Momentum imprint were not announced.
In a press release, Scott, the Senate’s only African-American Republican, and Gowdy, the former Benghazi Committee chairman known for his eye-catching hairstyles, said their goal was to start a reconciliation movement.
Scott and Gowdy first met in the fall of 2010, when they were elected to the U.S. House. Subsequently, Scott was appointed to the Senate by then-S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley when Republican Jim DeMint resigned his seat to become head of the Heritage Foundation. Scott later was elected to the Senate. Gowdy is in his fourth term in the House.
“Their journey toward a deep friendship has blossomed despite their different backgrounds, viewpoints, and stances on certain issues,” publisher Tyndale said. “After the Charleston Emanuel AME church-shooting in their home state ... they became determined to foster healing and reconciliation across racial, ethnic, ideological and other divides in our country. Scott and Gowdy model for us what moving toward reconciliation and true friendship can look like.”
