Myrtle Beach adding hundreds of surveillance cameras

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Myrtle Beach is adding 800 additional surveillance cameras around the city this year.

The Sun News reports (http://bit.ly/1ClF1fe ) the city is spending about $2 million on the project to add the cameras in 200 locations.

About 130 of the cameras should be in place by mid-May with the rest to be installed by Oct. 1.

Currently, the city has 14 cameras along busy Ocean Boulevard and there has been discussion for several years about adding more.

The city plans to pay for the cameras over the next three years.
