The Lexington County Veteran Affairs office will host a photo exhibit of 89 South Carolinian soldiers killed in war zones which will be on display for two weeks at the Lexington County Administration building in Lexington.

The exhibit displays military and personal photos of the soldiers, all of whom were killed in either Iraq or Afghanistan in the years following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks. The display is currently in Orangeburg County, but it will make its way to Lexington on April 20 with patriot guard and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department escort.

Ed Lundeen, director of the Lexington County Veterans Affairs, said eight of the soldiers who are honored in the display came from Lexington County.

“It’s putting a name to a face,” Lundeen said. “We are bringing them home with the rest of their brothers with this display and making it tangible for people who don’t know what these people look like. You’re looking at what (freedom) costs.”

Lundeen said of the eight soldiers in the display from Lexington County, seven of them are from Lexington and one is from West Columbia.

The exhibit was created by Bill and Evonne Williams of Patriotic Productions in Omaha, N.E. and is sponsored by Bellevue University.

The display will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for May 1 when the exhibit will close at 3 p.m.
