Anti-blight plan for Irmo-St. Andrews wins support

Neighborhood leaders lined up in support Tuesday of a one-year test of a blight prevention plan in the Irmo-St. Andrews area.

“We don’t want our neighborhoods to become eyesores,” Woodland Hills Civic Association president Tim Grimes told Lexington County Council.

Requirements under consideration include grass at a maximum 12 inches high, exterior maintenance of homes and no stagnant water in swimming pools, all similar to standards in half of the county’s 14 municipalities.

The plan assures suburban homes are “in a well-kept manner” without affecting rural areas, Council Chairman Johnny Jeffcoat of Irmo said.
