The city of Cayce has gotten a $30,000 state grant to help with repairs on a section of the Cayce Riverwalk damaged in a storm in June.

Parts of the walkway in Phase II of the Riverwalk were undermined in the June 10 storm, according to Cayce Mayor Elise Partin. The damage extends from near the railroad trestle and the Cayce Cove apartments to the Riverland Park neighborhood’s entrance to the walk.

Cayce City Council on Tuesday approved going ahead with an engineering study on repairing the damaged sections of the trail, City Manager Rebecca Vance said.

It is not known how much the total cost of repairs will be, Partin and Vance said. The damaged section of the trail will be closed until the repairs are made, they said.

The city’s grant application to the state Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism was aided by Sen. Nikki Setzler, D-Lexington, and Rep. Kenny Bingham, R-Lexington.

Setzler said more than 600,000 people visit the Cayce Riverwalk every year. “I am thrilled that the state was able to help the city of Cayce find a solution to get our Riverwalk back up and running,” he said. “It is a treasure to the people in Cayce and the entire Midlands area.”
