Department of Corrections officials are investigating an incident in which an inmate used a contraband device to transmit a live feed from within one of the state’s prisons.

Concerned citizens on social media spotted a live stream of an inmate through Periscope, an application that allows users to stream from their digital devices through Twitter. They took screenshots of the feed, and reported it to corrections officials through email, phone and Twitter, said Stephanie Givens, spokeswoman for the agency.

“SCDC investigators have identified two individuals and will continue working to identify all parties involved,” said Givens in a written statement.

An inmate is seen holding what appears to be a makeshift knife in one of the images. Several inmates are also pictured in a cell in a separate screenshot. The prison has not been identified.
