Check out the race medal for Columbia’s Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon

There’s a special medal for runners who cross the finish line in next month’s first-ever Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, part of the annual Walk for Life events for breast cancer.

The race medal design, created by a local artist, is cast in rose gold and features notable Columbia landmarks – from Spirit Communications Park (home base for the Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon) and the S.C. State House to the Gervais Street bridge and the three rivers that flow through the capital city.

Half-marathoners who finish the race will receive the medal.

The Palmetto Health Foundation puts on the Walk for Life, set this year for Oct. 22. The 26th annual event will include the 3.1-mile walk through historic downtown Columbia, plus the Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K and 10K. It’s one of the city’s largest fundraising walk/run events.

Walk for Life raises money in the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds stay in Columbia to fund efforts at the Palmetto Health Breast Center. This year, funds will help purchase a 3D digital mammography machine for the center.
