Former USC football great — and Heisman Trophy winner — George Rogers will be signing autographs and posing for photographs with fans, and his trophy, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Newk’s Eatery, 707 Gervais St. Rogers would like to thank the community for their support of the George Rogers Foundation which provides financial assistance to students in the Carolinas and supports community-based youth development. The foundation has paid out $40,000 in scholarships for students in 2016.

Rogers played tailback for the Gamecocks, rushing for 1,681 yards in his junior year. He won the Heisman Trophy during his senior year, in 1980, beating out Georgia running back Herschel Walker and Pittsburgh defensive lineman Hugh Green. George Rogers went on to play in the NFL in New Orleans and Washington, where he helped the Redskins win the Super Bowl in 1988. He retired after seven seasons, having rushed for 7,176 yards with 54 touchdowns.
