Five Points restaurant Garabaldi Cafe closes
Garibaldi Cafe, the longtime white tablecloth restaurant on Greene Street, has closed.
Garibaldi's, as it was known, was one of a handful of fine dining restaurants in Columbia that was favored for special occasions, including college graduations.
Della Mellis, the comptroller with Charleston-based Garibaldi's Management Corp., said the company wants to own the buildings that house the restaurants, and decided to leave the Five Points spot as the lease was coming up for renewal.
Managers told the staff Tuesday that the restaurant was closing.
Garibaldi is looking for another location in Columbia to buy a building.
Garibaldi Management Corp. also owns Cola's restaurant on Assembly Street and the former Anson Restaurant in Charleston, which closed after a fire in December 2013.
