Roberta Flack comes to Columbia April 17
Roberta Flack, hailed as one of the greatest singers of our time, comes to Columbia on April 17 as part of an on-going tribute to the president of Benedict College.
“An Enchanted Evening with Roberta Flack” is a black-tie optional event at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. General admission tickets for the 7 p.m. event are $95, which includes dinner and entertainment. College students get in for $30. The proceeds will fund scholarships.
Flack’s first recording, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” hit No. 1 across all charts. Her 1973 single, “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” went gold, climbing atop the pop and R&B charts. The album that followed achieved gold certification within two weeks of its release and was awarded Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal by a Female.
Other hit singles by Flack include “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” “Where Is the Love” and “The Closer I Get to You.”
One of music’s most accomplished artists, Flack was the first to win the Grammy for Record of the Year two consecutive years, with “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” in 1973 and “Killing Me Softly” in 1974.
