‘Spamalot’ headed to Town Theatre stage
King Arthur and his sidekick will be stirring things up at Town Theatre when the parody “Spamalot” opens this week for a three-week run in Columbia.
The multiple Tony Award-winning production, lovingly ripped off from the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” opens Friday and runs through May 30 at 1012 Sumter St.
In the show, King Arthur and his sidekick Patsy recruit a few good men to form the Knights of the very, very, very Round Table.
After gathering the assortment of incomparable knights, the group goes in search of the Holy Grail and along the way find themselves living it up in Camelot, enjoying a visit from God, being terrorized by the French and getting lost in a dark, but very expensive forest. The knights are heckled by a minstrel band, face attack by a killer rabbit, duel with the Black Knight and tested to put on a Broadway musical.
The ensemble includes the strangely flatulent Sir Bedevere, the dashingly handsome Sir Galahad, the recklessly brave Sir Lancelot and Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot.
The Lady of the Lake will also be floating in an out with her bevy of Laker Girls and an ensemble that takes on multiple characters.
But audience members who think they’re off limits for jokes should think again. Word on the street is everyone will be fair game.
Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sundays. There will be no show on Mother’s Day.
Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for seniors 65 and older, active military and college students, and $15 for 17 and younger.
For tickets, call (803) 799-2510.
