New Carowinds ‘Super Flume’ aims to break three world records with 100-foot drop

Carowinds unveiled plans Monday for a new water ride designed to shatter multiple world records: a towering flume that aims to be among the tallest when it opens in 2027.

Called Rip Roarin’ Falls Super Flume, the ride will have a 100-foot drop after its construction, the tallest log flume drop in the world, according to a Carowinds press release.

“It combines record-setting thrills and cutting-edge ride innovation—all with a 35-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for families,” Carowinds President Bridgette Bywater, wrote in the press release.

Construction is currently underway and in preparation, Carowinds announced a new membership program that will run for the remainder of 2026 and some of 2027, so visitors can attend the ride’s debut.

The 2026 program announced June 5 gives members access to multiple parks across the region with one pass, according to Six Flags’ senior vice president of commericial Chris Meyering.

The pass would unlock access to six additional east regional Six Flags parks, including Kings Dominion near Richmond, Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water near Atlanta, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, Dorney Park in Pennsylvania and Six Flags New England.

Reaching speeds up to 50 mph, riders will be sent forward and backward through high-speed switches that change the direction of the boat twice and send riders down two record-setting drops before the 100-foot plunge.

The Super Flume will be located in the Thrill Zone section of the park near Fury 325, where Rip Roarin’ Falls used to be.

The ride is expected to break three world records: the tallest flume drop at 100 feet, the tallest reverse drop at 42 feet, the tallest reverse camelback at 32 feet.

According to the press release, the Super Flume will also have elements of storytelling. Set in an abandoned lumber mill that is rumored to be haunted, riders will encounter “surprise after surprise” — whether it’s a record-breaking drop or an unfolding mystery.

The ride’s loading station is designed to increase rider capacity and reduce wait times. The minimum height requirement is 35 inches when accompanied by a guest who is 16 years or older and 41 inches when unaccompanied.

The 400-acre amusement park located on the state line between North and South Carolina has more than 58 rides.
