The 10 Best Games Shown at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct
Even though E3 has gone the way of brick-and-mortar video stores, the gaming industry still targets June for its big events. That officially kicked off last Tuesday with Sony's State of Play and continued with Summer Game Fest, Future Games Show, and Xbox Games Showcase. That left Nintendo, which had its latest Nintendo Direct on Tuesday.
With more than 30 games shown, there was a lot to sort through. One note before diving in: anything shown at previous events, such as Onimusha: Way of the Sword or Rayman Legends Retold, won't be included. Now, before we get to the top 10 titles from the Nintendo Direct, let's look at some news and honorable mentions:
As is typical with these events, several ports and new Switch 2 versions of existing games were shown off. Among the more notable ones were Lies of P: Complete Edition, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2-I enjoyed all those games on other systems and would highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't played them. Switch 2 also is getting an upgraded version of Minecraft, Pokemon Pokopia is adding new DLC, and Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is receiving a major expansion for the 2024 RPG.
For honorable mentions, JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON has a wild mouthful of a title, but it's from the makers of Vampire Survivors, which is an addictive game. Orbitals and Big Walk show potential and plenty of goofy cuteness. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has a dozen games and looks poised to scratch that motion-control itch for those with kids at home.
10) Splatoon Raiders
First announced almost a year ago to the day, Splatoon Raiders had an extended look along with news that it will have a dedicated Direct on June 30. Nintendo is hyping the spin-off, even showing brand-new Joy-Con controllers inspired by the game, so we'll see if it can live up to it.
9) DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World
Just as Dragon Quest Builders is obviously derived from Minecraft, MONSTERS takes clear inspiration from Pokemon. I had a lot of fun with the Builders games, so I'm curious to see how Square Enix puts its spin on things.
8) Star Fox
We're just a couple of weeks away from the launch of Star Fox, a remake/reimagining of the classic Star Fox 64. I'm going to "trust my instincts," and they're telling me this is going to be good.
7) Kingdom Hearts IV
The Kingdom Hearts series has always been something of a Rorschach test to me. Fans swear by the Disney crossovers and ARPG combat. Skeptics zero in on convoluted storytelling and uneven pacing. We'll see what the series has in store with the announcement of the first new mainline game since 2019-speaking of which, it also was revealed that the three previous titles would be receiving Switch 2 ports later this year.
6) Muramasa: Revenant Blades
Once upon a time, I played a ton of Muramasa Rebirth on the PlayStation Vita. Seeing the trailer for Revenant Blades was a reminder of just how good Rebirth was.
5) Xenoblade Genesis
It was a big day for Xenoblade fans. First, we received an announcement that the three existing games would be getting all-new Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Then, we learned one of the biggest surprises of the show with the debut of Xenoblade Genesis. You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.
4) Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
Nintendo gave us an extended look at the new Fire Emblem game, Fortune's Weave, which offers four different protagonists as they compete in the "Heroic Games," where the winner is granted one wish. We also learned a launch date of Sept. 17.
3) The Duskbloods
I'll be honest, I was hoping we'd see more from FromSoftware than the brief cinematic trailer we got for The Duskbloods. The only substantive piece of info was that a beta would be coming later this summer. There's still time to hit a 2026 launch, but the release calendar is filling up, and the clock is ticking.
2) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Nintendo closed the show by finally unveiling the long-rumored remake of Ocarina of Time. Little was shown, and no gameplay was revealed, so we'll have to wait to get a better look. While the game is doubtless a classic, I'm still holding out hope for a Link to the Past remake.
1) FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE
With all due respect, I think I might be more excited for this than Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and Revelation landed my top spot for Summer Game Fest. I love RESONANCE's HD-2D art style, and my taste for JRPGs is decidedly retro in that I firmly believe turn-based combat is the purest form. I just hope this doesn't get lost in the shuffle with an Oct. 22 release date.
