Have extra coins? Craving Chick-fil-A? Here’s what to do at this Columbia restaurant

Chick-fil-A

At least one local Chick-fil-A restaurant is joining a handful of others across the country in solving two problems: A shortage of coins, and your craving for chicken sandwiches.

The Chick-fil-A at Columbiana Centre Mall in Columbia is offering a promotion that allows you to exchange your rolled coins for cash and a free sandwich.

From now through Sept. 30, bring in $5 worth of rolled coins, and get $5 in bills plus a free sandwich (up to 10 per customer).

A pair of Chick-fil-A restaurants, one in Alabama and one in Virginia, kicked off this exchange trend recently due to an ongoing national shortage of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, NBC’s Today Show reported.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to a coin shortage among banks and retailers across the country because of the contracted economy and, in part, because of the slowdown of businesses where coins are regularly circulated such as laundromats, coffee shops and local banks, USA Today reported.

Not all Chick-fil-A locations are offering the coins-for-chicken promotion. The Columbiana Centre location is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on Sundays, when all Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed.
