Chicken chain plans to open new restaurants in Columbia, across SC

A Florida-based fried chicken chain plans to open several new restaurants in South Carolina, including in Columbia.

Huey Magoo’s, which specializes in chicken tenders, will open eight restaurants across South Carolina, including in Columbia, Charleston and Mount Pleasant, according to a news release from the company.

A franchisee is currently scouting locations; no firm addresses have been set, a spokesperson said.

The new South Carolina restaurants will be a part of a broad expansion across the Southeast for the small chain that currently has 13 locations in Florida and Georgia. Along with eight new restaurants in South Carolina, Huey Magoo’s plans to open five locations in Tennessee and five more in Georgia.

The restaurant’s menu features chicken tender plates — both fried and grilled — sandwiches, wraps and salads with a variety of dipping sauces.

“In these challenging times, we feel incredibly fortunate that Huey Magoo’s is in fact thriving with positive comp store sales, 120 franchises sold, more leases signed and restaurant openings set,” representative Andy Howard said in a statement.
