Old TakoSushi restaurant in the Vista gets new life with Cajun flair

Boiled and fried seafood, hushpuppies and chicken wings have replaced sushi rolls and quesadillas at the former TakoSushi restaurant location in Columbia’s Vista.

A new restaurant, Crabby’s Cajun, has opened in its place on Assembly Street, near the S.C. State House.

You’ll find a blended menu of Louisiana-inspired seafood dishes — including boiled or fried shrimp, crawfish, mussels, clams and crab legs — along with Chinese dishes such as General Tso’s chicken, lo mein, fried rice and dumplings.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant is using disposable cutlery, spaced-out indoor seating and plexiglass barriers at its ordering counter, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. It also offers takeout.

This is the second location for Crabby’s Cajun, which also has a restaurant in Greenville.

TakoSushi, an Asian-Southwestern fusion restaurant chain, closed its Assembly Street location last November when its owner claimed the building was unsafe. The restaurant’s landlord, former Columbia City Councilman Jim Papadea, disputed that claim, saying as far as he knew, the building was in good shape.

Crabby’s Cajun is located at 1115 Assembly St. and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
