A new location of a well-known restaurant for tacos and more is being planned in Lexington.

Taco Bell, which has thousands of restaurants across the U.S., is eyeing a location at 2464 Augusta Hwy., according to the December agenda paperwork for the Lexington County Planning Commission. The Taco Bell project is listed in the “commercial projects” portion of the agenda.

The Taco Bell would be located directly across the street from Lexington High School. A Pep Boys auto service spot is next door, and a shopping center with a Lowes Foods, a Little Caesars Pizza, a Jersey Mike’s sub shop and more is located just to the east. No construction had begun at the planned Taco Bell site as of Monday morning when a reporter went by.

There are more than 8,000 Taco Bell locations across the U.S., per data website Scrape Hero, and it is perhaps one of the best known fast food companies. It offers tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas and, of course, Mountain Dew Baja Blast.

The area where the new Taco Bell is planned is a high-traffic, growing spot. Numerous new subdivisions, including Murray Village and Hendrix Farms, are nearby, and a host of businesses, including McDonald’s, Arby’s, Sonic and more are located close by along the Augusta Highway. There also is a Target store under development along Augusta Highway, a short distance to the west.

About 24,000 cars per day travel down that section of the Augusta Highway, per state Department of Transportation data.
