An ice cream restaurant that has proven popular near northeast Columbia is planning a Lexington location.

Scoop of Heaven, which currently has a shop at 556 Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin, is prepping a second location at 312 Columbia Ave. in Lexington. That’s about two miles northwest of the heart of downtown Lexington.

The Scoop of Heaven shop will be going to a property that was formerly the longtime home of a Sonic Drive-In. The Sonic moved from 312 Columbia Ave. to a spot up the street at 461 Columbia Ave. in early 2023.

“Hey Lexington, we are excited to announce we are coming to you soon!,” Scoop of Heaven said in a Dec. 12 Facebook post. “Opening the summer of 2026. Sweeter days are on the way!”

Scoop of Heaven first teased the idea of the Lexington location on social media back in October, when it shared a photo of the old Sonic building on Columbia Avenue. There was a building permit that lists Scoop of Heaven posted on the building when a reporter stopped by Monday morning.

The Elgin Scoop of Heaven location opened in July 2024, in the Spears Creek Plaza retail center. The restaurant offers more than 30 flavors of ice cream, along with milkshakes and more.
