A popular Mexican restaurant in one of Columbia’s key hospitality districts is planning a move to a different spot in the neighborhood.

Monterrey, which has been located at 931 Senate St. in the Vista for a number of years, announced in Facebook posts that it will be moving soon and is prepping a new spot at 700 Gervais St. suite C.

“Great News Family and Friends we have [acquired] a new spot in the Vista,” the Monterrey Vista location said on Facebook. “That’s right we are moving soon we thank you for your support and loyalty we will keep you updated.”

The planned move comes as developer Subtext is planning to build a new seven-story apartment complex on the property at 931 Senate Street, which is at the corner of Senate and Park streets. The apartment project went through various city approvals last year.

The spot where Monterrey is planning to move, at 700 Gervais St. suite C, formerly was home to a Crafty Crab restaurant. Other neighboring businesses include Craft Axe Throwing and a Tsunami restaurant.

Monterrey offers a host of Mexican favorites, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and much more.

An exact date for the planned move hasn’t been publicly announced.
