The Midlands has a massive new entertainment center with bowling, food and more

The game is most definitely on in the Cayce and West Columbia area.

WesCo Brew & Bowl, located at 3040 Charleston Highway in Cayce, just south of Interstate 26, will have a grand opening weekend June 26 to June 28. The massive, 44,000-square-foot entertainment center is located in a building that formerly housed a Piggly Wiggly supermarket at the Cayce Crossing shopping center.

The former grocery store space has gotten a complete $13 million overhaul and is now home to a multi-faceted entertainment hub that has a little something for everyone. WesCo Brew & Bowl has 12 lanes for bowling, a large arcade, two full bars, billiards, a full food menu, more than 50 TVs for watching sports, a spacious outdoor patio with fire pits, a Valo Arena for immersive gaming and more.

The new food and entertainment facility made a splashy debut with a VIP event and ribbon cutting on June 23, as WesCo owners and management, political dignitaries such as U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, local business leaders and hundreds of residents crowded in to check out the complex.

WesCo Brew & Bowl owner Satish Patel told The State it was his intention to establish a dynamic entertainment and restaurant complex the whole family can enjoy.

“I wanted to actually create a unique space with a restaurant,” Patel said. “It’s a unique concept. It’s not just a typical bowling alley or an arcade. This is a different concept that I wanted to bring the community in the Midlands.”

While there are many aspects to keep folks entertained at WesCo, Patel said bowling was always on the drawing board for the facility. WesCo has 12 next-generation bowling lanes with graphics and video elements that make for an immersive experience.

“I have always enjoyed bowling,” Patel said. “I feel like bowling can bring the community together, family members together, friends together. I remember when I was young, I always loved bowling.”

WesCo has a robust food menu offering chicken wings, pizza, smashburgers, street tacos, salads, sandwiches, and entrees such as Cajun pasta and fish & chips. Desserts include a chocolate brownie sundae and a banana cream parfait, among others.

And there are plenty of beverages on the menu at the facility’s two full bars, including cocktails, draft beers, canned and bottled beers, hard seltzers, wines, non-alcoholic drinks and more.

Matthew Staup is the general manager at WesCo. He noted much on the menu is made-from-scratch in the restaurant’s kitchen. He pointed out a few of his favorite items on the roster.

“One-hundred percent the pizza,” Staup told The State. “The pizza is all made-from-scratch, which is very important for us. We have some very nice pizza ovens back there. The street tacos are great, we are doing some fun stuff there. And I think the smashburgers are huge. They are fully customizable, and we are super excited about them.”

Staup pointed to the investment Patel has made in converting the former Piggly Wiggly into a full-on entertainment center, noting that 140 people are currently employed there.

Tony Tam, the new president and CEO of the Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, told The State he was impressed with WesCo Brew & Bowl during the June 23 ribbon cutting.

“This is incredible,” Tam said. “It’s beautiful. Obviously they have a great vision. It is going to do incredibly well, I believe. ... It will be supported. People love this kind of stuff. And this is a great time to open, in the summer.”
